  • Overview

    The Developmental Specialist position is a 40 hour per week position from 8am-4:00pm Monday-Friday. The Developmental Specialist manages a team of Teaching Assistants that support people with a developmental disability in a Day Habilitation setting. Along with the supervising a team this position involves working on arts & crafts projects, cooking, and other fun activities within the program and the community at large. The Developmental Specialist also provides transportation and assistance with personal hygiene frequently. 


    This position involves frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of up to 50 pounds.


    1. Develop, implement and operate a program model consistent with the vision of maximizing community involvement and providing personalized, flexible supports to the individuals served.
    2. Coordinate daily activity schedules.
    3. Foster and develop positive community relationships.
    4. Monitor and oversee the overall process and development of Individual Service Plans.
    5. Ensure program meets all the regulatory standards.
    6. Collaborate and maintain positive relationships with ancillary services, community members, other service providers and significant others.
    7. Ensure individuals are receiving supports to maximize their health and safety.
    8. Ensure program is meets cleanliness and safety requirements.
    9. Oversee the supervision and evaluation of Activity Specialists and Community Advocates.
    10.  Hire and train staff.
    11.  Assist in the coordination and transportation of individuals served.
    12. Implement evacuation procedures during drills and emergencies.
    13.  Support all program and agency expectations and procedures.
    14.  Perform other related tasks as assigned.



    BA in social services related field preferred. Two years experience working with people with developmental disabilities. Supervisory experience required. Must have a valid driver's license.
